Learn about the various routes to educator licensure by using this interactive infographic.  You may also click on the video below to learn about traditional and non-traditional routes to licensure.

Find an Approved Educator Preparation Program

The Matrix for Approved Educator Preparation Programs at Institutions of Higher Education can be used to explore licensure programs.  The matrix is updated regularly.  For more information contact the Institution of Higher Education.  For information on Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs contact the MAT coordinator.

Non-IHE alternative preparation programs are for individuals interested in Arkansas educator licensure who already hold a bachelor's degree or higher.  Unlike MAT programs, non-IHE alternative preparation programs do not lead to college credit.

Pathways to Teaching for Paraprofessionals

Arkansas offers various programs that allow a candidate to complete a degree or licensure program while working full-time as a paraprofessional. These programs offer online coursework and/or flexible class schedules that include evening and Saturday classes.
For paraprofessionals with a bachelor’s degree or higher, contact information is available for Master of Arts in Teaching Programs and Alternative Preparation Provider Programs.
For paraprofessionals without a bachelor’s degree, completion programs allow those with two-year degrees or previous college hours to obtain a four-year degree and become eligible for licensure or alternative educator preparation programs. Licensure degree programs allow a paraprofessional to get a degree and obtain licensure in specific licensure content levels, while degree programs do not lead to teacher licensure but may be used to meet the degree requirement for admission to an alternative educator preparation program.
