  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (0.5 HR) The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. In this course, Daniel Collier, Technology Projects Coordinator for the Arkansas Department of Education, addresses the FERPA basics, explores requirements for the protection of student records for Local Education Agencies (LEAs), explains who may and may not access student records, when those records may be shared, and discusses several of the applicable exceptions to the FERPA requirement for consent.   • Data Security Awareness: Security Mentor Modules 1–6 (1.5 HRS) Security Mentor provides brief, frequent, and focused interactive cyber security lessons that provide educators and school administrators with practical tips on increasing security measures and keeping data, including student data, secure. Each interactive, game-based module is accompanied by a classroom poster that can be used to engage students in discussions regarding data security. Each poster features a QR code linking to illustrative videos or other related media to be discovered. This course contains the first half of the Security Mentor modules, which focus on developing an awareness of information security best practices regarding preventing and reporting incidents related to passwords, email, phishing attacks, and public WiFi.   • Cyber Summer (6 HRS) Cyber Summer is an online learning module designed for teachers and school personnel seeking to master the basics of cyber security in order to keep their work and home environments safe from growing cyber threats.  Over a four week period, participants will gain knowledge about topics ranging from privacy laws and ethics to simple tips for stronger protection of workstation equipment like computers and cell phones. The course materials will be released once a week for four weeks and will include informative videos, articles and more. It will take approximately 90 minutes to complete each course. At the end of the course, participants will be awarded with a virtual topic completion badge! Visit our information page for more details regarding weekly activities and registration.   • July 7, 2020: Arkansas StudentGPS Dashboard – 101 (9:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. - 2 HRS) The Arkansas StudentGPS Dashboards is a free, web-based system that is currently available for utilization in every district across the state. StudentGPS allows educators to utilize education data in practical and powerful ways and enable data informed decision making in classrooms. Register for the session. (60 seats)
  • July 8, 2020: Arkansas StudentGPS Dashboard - Managers Training  (9:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. - 2 HRS) Is your district ready to implement the Arkansas studentGPS Dashboard? Are you a studentGPS Group Manager or district system administrator looking for information on studentGPS technical requirements? This session will focus on the administrative setup and tasks for studentGPS Dashboards. Participants will review required district and users’ setup, resources, error messages, and support. Register for the session. (60 seats)
  • July 9, 2020: Digital Sandbox 101 (9:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. - 1 HR) This session will start off by covering the basics of the Arkansas Digital Sandbox, from uploading media to your account, creating your own videos and screen recordings, searching for media uploaded by others, and sharing your videos with your colleagues and students.  The session will then transition to learning how to create your own video-based quizzes using the SmartSpot tool, as well as Multimedia based projects using the MediaSpot tool.  Lastly, we will discuss integrations into LMS systems such as Canvas and Schoology. The Arkansas Digital Sandbox is provided at no cost to school districts in Arkansas. Register for the session. (300 seats)
  • July 10, 2020: Getting Started with My School Info (9:30 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. – 1.5 HR) My School Info allows the public to search and compare public schools and districts from across the state. Join us to learn how to navigate, compare schools, create custom reports, and analyze various metrics. Register for session. (100 seats)

  • July 16, 2020: Digital Sandbox Live Broadcasting (9:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. - 1 HR) The Arkansas Digital Sandbox provides your school district with a no cost platform to live broadcast from mobile devices, computers and media encoders. In this session you will learn how to live broadcast from your smartphone using your Sandbox account. In addition, we will show how to broadcast from your computer using a built-in or USB connected webcam and the free Open Broadcaster Software (OBS). This session will provide school and district specific examples of setting up and using live broadcasting. The Arkansas Digital Sandbox is provided at no cost to school districts in Arkansas.   • July 17, 2020: Deep Dive with My School Info (9:30 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. – 1.5 HR) My School Info allows the public to search and compare public schools and districts from across the state. Join us for a deep dive through a series of ‘use-cases’ applicable to district and school leaders. Register for the session. (100 seats)

  • July 22, 2020 & July 23, 2020: Security Awareness Workshop  (9:00 A.M. - 12:30 A.M. x 2 - 5 HRS) Cyber security is much more than an IT issue, representing one of the greatest threats to every organization. It is recognized that over 95% of data incidents recognize “human error” as a contributing factor. (IBM Cyber Security Index) Technology alone can only solve ~26% of potential data security threats. One of the most effective ways to protect your staff and your students is through awareness and preparation. It is scary to consider how much technology and data are used in our schools without the necessary preparation. Schools often feel ill-equipped to address this issue on their own. The Security Awareness Campaign was launched to better meet this growing demand in 4 simple steps. Register for the session. (100 seats)
