Duties and Responsibilities:
The Program Coordinator for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) is a crucial position that interplays with numerous DESE units and initiatives to ensure educators of learners identified as Els (English Learners) receive professional development and technical assistance to meet students’ needs. The work is guided by Section 5 of the AR DESE Rules Governing Students Special Needs Funding. These rules ensure compliance with federal statutes, specifically under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VI) and the Equal Educational Opportunities Act of 1974 (EEOA). Extensive experience with budgeting is necessary – there is a $19,000,000 budget associated with ESOL services.

Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in secondary education, educational administration, or related field; plus five years of experience in education, public school administration, or a related field, including two years in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
