Charter School Application Process

Arkansas uses a rolling application window during the published application cycle. The planning timeline begins when a complete Letter of Intent (LOI) is submitted. The timeline below is intended to help potential operators understand the sequence of the process. Actual dates are confirmed in writing by the Charter Office and depend on application completeness, readiness to proceed, reviewer capacity, and the CAP meeting calendar.

The process is designed to do two things: help applicants understand expectations before submitting a final application and give the state a clear record to determine whether the proposed school is needed, coherent, capable, financially viable, and ready to launch.

When an applicant submits a complete LOI and remains on schedule, a common planning assumption is an approximately 10-week application review cycle from LOI submission to a CAP hearing. This is not a guaranteed hearing date. The Charter Office will confirm each step based on the application record and public meeting calendar.
