$5.2 Million in American Rescue Plan Funds Awarded to 44 Grant Recipients in Arkansas

The Arkansas Department of Education’s Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and Arkansas State University's Childhood Services and its sponsored initiative, the Arkansas Out of School Network, have awarded $5.2 million in American Rescue Plan (ARP) ESSER III grant funding to 44 afterschool, summer, and extended-year learning programs across the state. To promote extended learning opportunities for students around the state, the Arkansas Department of Education has selected the Arkansas Out of School Network, an Arkansas State University program, to oversee an initiative that provides American Rescue Plan ESSER III funds to schools and organizations that provide afterschool, summer, and extended-school-year programs that promote learning and social emotional development. ASU and the Out of School Network will accept applications, distribute funding, and manage the sub-award process.

The award period began July 1, 2021, and will continue through December 30, 2024. Those eligible to apply include schools, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, licensed youth development programs, public libraries, nonprofit organizations, career and technical programs, and public and private institutions of higher education. Programs eligible for funding include those that provide academic support, skill building, social emotional learning, health and wellness, enrichment, and workforce development services for students in grades K-12.

Grants will be awarded through a competitive process; however, priority will be given to programs that serve a high percentage of students disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Applications must address the academic impact of lost instructional time on student learning through evidence-based summer programs and comprehensive afterschool programs.
