School Report Cards

Ark. Code Ann. § 6-15-1402 requires that the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) annually prepare and publish a school performance report for each public school in the state and make the report available to schools, parents, and the local community. Additionally, the report card is presented in an understandable and user-friendly format, which is required under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). ESSA was signed by President Barack Obama on December 10, 2015. The U.S. Department of Education approved the Arkansas ESSA plan in January 2018. The report provides information about each school, district, and the state, including achievement, growth, teacher qualification, school environment, and more.

What's in the Report Card?

This year, the School Report Card includes additional details which are intended to provide you with more in-depth information about your school(s). For example, information is provided on students affected by homelessness, students in foster care, students of military families, and gifted and talented students. There are 17 modules in the School Report Card. View information about the School Report Card Modules. Please notice that the modules have colored indicators next to them. The red indicator means that a module is awaiting data. The yellow indicator means that a module has some data, but is awaiting more data to be considered complete. The green indicator means that the module has been finalized with the data needed to complete that module. All modules will be finalized by April 15, 2022.

The report cards should spur constructive and positive conversation between educators, parents, students, and the community about continuous school improvement. School districts need parental and community support to help students achieve their full potential. Through the work, commitment, and cooperation of all of us, our schools will provide a student-focused education that achieves success for every student.

Please note that, to protect student privacy, some entries are labeled as restricted values (RV) or N<10. The values for these entries have been suppressed to protect the identification of a student or students in a small group in a school report.

State and National ACT Scores

The college admission tests listed in the report card include the American College Test (ACT). The ACT shows the average scores of high school seniors. The ACT score ranges from 1 to 36. Most public colleges and universities in Arkansas require the ACT as part of their admissions process. The average scores are listed for English, Math, Reading and Science, as well as an overall composite score. Students have more than one opportunity to take the exam. The data reported here are the best test scores for the students in the graduating class.

School Ratings

The A-F grading scale is a widely accepted way to identify how well a student is performing in school. In 2013, the Arkansas Legislature passed A.C.A. § 6-15-2101 which requires the state to implement an A-F grading scale for schools. Detailed information on the school rating system can be found in the ADE Rules Governing the Public School Rating System on Annual School Performance and Reports and the School Recognition Program.

At the request of Arkansas stakeholders, the ADE aligned the state’s accountability system, including the School Rating System, with the Arkansas Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan (federal accountability). The ESSA School Index score and stakeholder recommended rating scale are used to determine the letter grades (rating) for schools. The state accountability system requires scores of students attending Alternate Learning Environment (ALE) programs having local education agency (LEA) numbers to be included in their respective area schools. Each school is assigned to a grade span based on the grades the school serves (grade range of school). The total score for each school will determine the school rating. Please view the information in the tables below or download Grade Ranges and Ratings.
