Notice of Intent

In Arkansas, the Notice of Intent to Home School (NOI) is a document required by law each academic year to notify the public school district and the Arkansas Department of Education of your intent (or purpose) to homeschool. By submitting an NOI, parents assume the full responsibility of educating their children—including the financial cost of the home school lesson plans or any other teaching supplies—that would otherwise fall to the local public school district in which they reside.

Additionally, the NOI does not enroll or register your child into a homeschool or GED program. Please click the Support for Home School Parent tab to get additional information and links to resources.

  • June—A Reminder email was sent to home school parents announcing that NOIs will be accepted for the upcoming school year starting on June 1 and outlining the submission process.
  • June 1 - First day the NOI form will be accepted for the upcoming school year. All forms submitted before this date will be processed for the preceding school year.
  • August 15 - Deadline for NOI form to be submitted for the upcoming school year. NOI forms submitted after this date for a student currently enrolled in public school will be subject to a waiting period of 5 school days before releasing the student to be home-schooled. The superintendent or local school district board has the authority to waive this waiting period upon request.

Parents may complete the NOI form online or on paper, as outlined below:
