Effective Teacher Licensure (ETL)
Effective Teacher Licensure Exception (ETL) does not require DESE approval. School districts will mark ETL in the CourseSIS in eSchool in order to utilize the licensure exception. Records must be maintained by the school district that serve as evidence of effective teaching. The ETL licensure exception allows a licensed teacher to teach one grade level above or one grade level below the grade in which they were evaluated as effective.
Example: A 6th grade teacher that meets the definition of an Effective teacher in 6th grade English Language Arts can teach 7th grade English Language Arts with an Elementary Education K-6 license.
