Recognized Masters in Academic Content

The following list of degrees are accepted for the Master Professional Educator designation pathway using a master’s in an academic content area plus DESE-approved micro-credentials. To add the designation the official transcript must show 18 graduate hours in the academic content area.

A foreign language

Life Science/Biology

Computer Science 

The Master Professional Educator designation is intended to elevate masters of academic content areas. These master’s degrees are not eligible for the content master’s degree pathway due to their focus on pedagogy, student support services, and administration: 

Counseling, Library Media, Gifted and Talented, Special Education, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Educational Theory and Practice, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership. Endorsement areas such as reading, dyslexia, and ESOL are not eligible for this pathway. MAT degrees (Master’s of Art in Teaching) or an equivalent degree are not eligible for this pathway.
