A good Student Success Plan addresses preparation for college, career and community engagement. Interest inventory and skills assessment tools provide schools multiple measures of student academic achievement and growth to assist with development of the student success plan. Access to survey tools in grades 8-12 can provide students insight into their personal strengths, aptitudes, and interests. This information can enable them to better transition from high school to an occupational and academic future that will meet their personal needs and work values.
To support this process, the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is providing access to a College and Career Readiness Tool (CCR Tool) for Arkansas students in grades 8-12. Through the state procurement process, the following list of providers have been selected as viable vendors who meet the minimum qualifications to adequately assess student aptitude using a variety of research based solutions. School Districts who select a vendor from this list will have the cost of contract for 8-12 grade students paid by ADE. This will allow the schools to maintain local decision making ability while allowing ADE and ARCareerEd to ensure quality assessment tools for career planning.
2020-21 Vendor Selection Process
School Districts have had access to their chosen vendor tool for one year. DESE is providing schools an opportunity to change their selected vendor before beginning a three year commitment. A certified selection link will be provided to Superintendents in late April 2020, allowing 4-6 weeks for submission. By June 15, 2020 Superintendents must submit a certified selection of provider for the 2020-21 thru 2022-23 school years. The next opportunity to change providers will be in the spring of 2023.
To facilitate selection, DESE hosted a Virtual Vendor Fair March 16-20, 2020 for the approved providers of the CCR Tool. Each virtual session was recorded and can now be viewed in the Spring 2020 CCR Tool Virtual Vendor Fair
document under Related Files. More information on each vendor, including the recording, can be found by clicking on the vendor links to the right.
To assist with selection of the most efficient and productive tool as well as effective implementation, you may want to look over this Selection Guide
. It outlines the specified services that should be available from each provider, talks you through putting together a selection committee, and gives sample questions to ask. Districts are encouraged to have a staff team participate in the selection and implementation process. Please consider the following roles when putting together your team:
· CCR Tool Point of Contact (Manages communication between the district, DESE, and selected vendor)
· Building Principals, Curriculum Coordinators, or other Administration
· Counselors, Career Coaches, Teacher Advisers, or other student Mentor program staff
· Classroom Teachers including Academic, ALE, CTE, Electives, GT, and SPED.
· Other staff who work with scheduling, advising, or coaching students toward graduation and future planning
Whether a district remains with their current provider for the coming cycle, or elects to change providers, as we being years 2-4 of this process the focus should now be on broadening student use of the resources and services provided. Superintendents are asked to read this letter
to assist with district and building level implementation.
Throughout the year, schools in Arkansas have been invested in implementing their selected CCR Tool with students. There have been many questions, many hurdles, and many positive moments. We want to share the following success stories from your colleagues around the state.
