Firearm Safety Education

Act 229 of 2025 required the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, in partnership with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, to approve a curriculum or program to be used to educate students in public school districts and open-enrollment public charter schools on firearm safety. This curriculum is designed to provide age-appropriate, standards-aligned firearm safety instruction for students in a school-based setting.

Kindergarten through Grade 5 curriculum packets are now available. Curriculum packets for grades 6 through 12 will be released for implementation during the 2026-2027 school year.

To support transparency and family engagement, the following parent overview video has been created to communicate the purpose, scope, and intent of the curriculum and to assist parents and guardians in understanding the instruction their students will receive.
